GPU Fire, Smoke, Explosions
Create high quality simulations quickly with powerful FumeFX GPU simulation system.

Fire & Smoke

The FumeFX simulation core has been continuously refined to deliver highly realistic fire, smoke, and explosion behavior while keeping simulation times to a minimum. With the FumeFX 7.5 update, artists gain powerful NVIDIA® CUDA acceleration, delivering on average 2× to 5× faster simulation performance compared to CPU. FumeFX GPU simulation also avoids typical GPU memory limits — once memory is exceeded, the simulation automatically falls back to CPU mode, allowing you to complete even the most complex simulations without interruption. FumeFX 7.5 also added two-way coupling between fluids and rigid bodies, allowing simulations to actively interact with objects — pushing, lifting, and reacting to motion for realistic physical behavior. Additionally, FumeFX features native OpenVDB support, allowing artists to import volumetric caches directly from tools such as SideFX Houdini and Embergen, seamlessly integrating external simulations into 3ds Max scenes for rendering, lighting, and further effects work.

Film like explosion are now possible in 3ds max with FumeFX and Arnold renderer.

GPU Simulation

FumeFX GPU provides artists with powerful NVIDIA® CUDA acceleration for dramatically faster simulations, while preserving the realistic fire and smoke behavior that FumeFX is known for. Where many sparse fluid solvers struggle to maintain believable detail and motion, FumeFX GPU excels — delivering both performance and high-end visual quality.

Combustion with Oxygen

The Fire model within FumeFX adds Oxygen to the equation. This new component brings forth various new ways to creatively control the burn process.
Multiple vorticity methods for most detailed fire and smoke simulation in 3ds max.

Vorticity

With the addition of various vorticity models you can choose from visually different curl types giving your FumeFX simulations a more unique look and feel.
FumeFX Effectors provide more control over fire and smoke simulations.

Effectors

Gain creative control over almost every simulation parameter and field. With Effectors it is simple to control vorticity by velocity or to generate smoke based on any other channel value. Effectors take channel data to the next step.

To-way coupling between solids and fluid simulation.

Two-Way Coupling

Fluid simulation now interacts with scene objects in both directions — objects influence the fluid flow, and the fluid pushes back, affecting motion and behavior. Powered by NodeWorks’ fully node-based framework and built-in PhysX rigid-body simulation, this connection creates physically accurate results.

Nested simulations for memory saving and speed.

N-Sim

It is a great time saving solution. This allows the user to simulate multiple overlapping grids simultaneously while all fields propagate between the overlapping grid boundaries automatically.
Wavelet turbulence to upres your fire and smoke simulation and add more detail quickly.

Wavelet Turbulence

It's never been easier to add more detail to an existing FumeFX simulation. It is a fast, memory efficient and predictable way to increase grid resolution.
Speed up or slow down your fire and smoke simulations with ease.

Post Processing

The Post Processing lets you retime caches, bake Render Warps, convert between various formats, or improve cache fetch and save disk space by excluding channels that are no longer needed in your workflow.

GPU Viewport 2.0

The redesigned GPU viewport in FumeFX 7.5 delivers a new multiview core and significantly faster feedback. It continues to support proper blending with scene geometry and enables direct viewport PNG export during simulation — making it easier to review and view results in real time.

Rendering

FumeFX includes Explosion Preprocess set of options that fully support the Arnold renderer and its advanced node set, enabling the creation of Hollywood-style fireballs with stunning realism.

Render Warps

This FumeFX innovation allows users to apply Bend, Twist, FFD, and other space warps to deform cached simulations, with results visible directly in the 3ds Max Viewport or in rendered images.

Licensing

Make sure to extend your subscription on time as we are not automatically charge credit cards to extend subscription.
Once your FumeFX 7 subscription expires you will be able to load and render caches but you cannot run simulation, acess or change any parameter inside the user interface. The same rules apply for FumeFX and NodeWorks while ISurf requires license for rendering.
Your FumeFX 5 perpetual license will be valid regardless of FumeFX 7 subscription and may continue to use it. However, FumeFX 5 is an obsolete version now and will not be updated.
We do offer educational license at $95 for one year subscription. It is available for high school or colledge students, staff members, schools and other educational or non-profit organisations. Contact us if you wish to order educational license. Volume discounts are available.
